Practitioner lecture in applied analytical chemistry course provides new insights related to the Environmental Agency
In the Odd Semester of 2022/2023, the Department of Chemistry successfully secured the 2022 Kampus Merdeka Competition Program (PKKM) Grant organized by Dikti-Ristek. This effort is part of the Department of Chemistry at FST UNAIR’s full support for the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program initiated by KEMDIKBUDRISTEK. One of the activities adopted is Practitioners Teaching on Campus to provide students with new insights. The practitioners’ lecture in the Applied Analytical Chemistry course was delivered by Arrizal Rahman, S.T., who works at the Environmental Agency of Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, on Thursday, September 1, 2022, held in the Chemistry Meeting Room. This lecture was accompanied by the Coordinator of the Master’s Program in Chemistry, Yanuardi Raharjo, Ph.D., and the lecturer for the Applied Analytical Chemistry course, Dr. Muji Harsini, M.Si. The participants of this lecture were students from the Department of Chemistry who are enrolled in the Applied Analytical Chemistry course.
At the beginning of the lecture, Arrizal, the guest lecturer from the Environmental Agency (DLH), provided an overview of the conditions in Balikpapan City, the functions and duties of the Environmental Agency (DLH), and the achievements of DLH Balikpapan. Arrizal then explained the waste management process in Balikpapan, which is closely related to environmental policy. He also discussed the Balikpapan Botanical Garden located near the protected forest area and the developing Balikpapan State Polytechnic. Additionally, Arrizal illustrated how graduates in chemistry can work at DLH, bringing with them their knowledge of applied analytical chemistry. The lecture also offered students the opportunity to directly discuss work experiences with the practitioner lecturer. At the end of the session, the practitioner lecturer was appreciated by the Department of Chemistry, represented by Dr. Muji Harsini, M.Si., the person in charge of the Applied Analytical Chemistry course.
The purpose of this guest lecture is to enhance the variety of learning experiences and provide more comprehensive education so that students can envision how chemistry is applied in the professional world. This helps ensure they are adequately prepared to enter the workforce upon graduation.
