Chemistry Lecturers Extend Impact to Africa through “Equity Capable: Capacity Building for Learning Educators in Africa”

Prof. Dr. Ni Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., Prof. Dr. Alfinda Novi Kristanti, DEA, and Prof. Dr. Nanik Siti Aminah, M.Si. from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga conducted a series of activities at Bayero University Kano (BUK), Nigeria, from 9–14 February 2026. The program, entitled “Equity Capable: Capacity Building for Learning Educators in Africa,” formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen educator capacity and foster international collaboration in education and science.

The initiative involved the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry at BUK in collaboration with World University Association for Community Development (WUACD), OIC-COMS-TECH, and Universitas Airlangga. The week-long workshop brought together academics, researchers, and educators from various institutions to discuss the development of research-based education and the utilization of local natural resources.

During the program, Prof. Nyoman led the delegation and reaffirmed Universitas Airlangga’s commitment to supporting the advancement of science education in the African region. She emphasized the importance of cross-border collaboration in building inclusive education systems that are adaptive to technological developments and responsive to societal needs.

Prof. Alfinda and Prof. Nanik also contributed actively to training sessions and scientific discussions, particularly in the areas of natural product-based chemistry education and the integration of educational approaches in the learning process. The materials delivered highlighted the importance of integrating technology, creativity, and ethics in higher education to cultivate graduates who are competitive and globally engaged.
