Prof. Dr. Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., a Professor of Biochemistry at Universitas Airlangga, presented his research in Germany

UNAIR NEWS – Universitas Airlangga continues to actively participate in various scientific forums, showcasing its commitment to enhancing academic capabilities and fostering research development. Recently, Prof. Dr. Nyoman Tri Puspaningsih, M.Si., from the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) at UNAIR, attended the 4th Green & Sustainable Chemistry Conference in Dresden, Germany, from May 5-8. During the conference, he presented his research on biomass processing from agricultural waste.

Prof. Nyoman’s presentation, titled “Research Based Learning on Biomass Acting Enzymes to Develop Human Resources for Green Technology Competency in ASEAN Countries,” highlighted the potential of biomass processing to yield valuable natural products such as organic fertilizers, animal feed, and recycled paper. His research utilizes excelzyme, a consortium of enzymes designed to maximize agricultural waste utilization. This innovation, developed over nearly two decades at UNAIR’s Center for Molecular Engineering Research, has been patented and recognized in GenBank and the Protein Data Bank (PDB).

In addition to the conference, Prof. Nyoman participated in a workshop themed “Be an entrepreneur! – A Workshop for Curious Scientists,” focusing on the commercialization of research products to benefit society. He emphasized the importance of patenting products before publication and effectively convincing stakeholders of their competitive value.

During the conference, Prof. Nyoman engaged in fruitful discussions with fellow researchers, exchanging insights on transforming research outcomes into viable business ventures. He also utilized the opportunity to promote UNAIR’s Academic Mobility Exchange for Undergraduate at Airlangga (AMERTA) program, which facilitates international student exchanges and includes specialized courses like Enzymology taught by Prof. Nyoman himself.

By leveraging such international platforms, UNAIR aims to strengthen its global engagement and foster sustainable academic partnerships that contribute to environmental preservation and scientific advancement.
