UNAIR’s Chemistry Department organized a workshop on the Utilization of Social Media as an Educational Tool for Teachers at SMKN 1 Driyorejo.
The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology (FST), Universitas Airlangga, once again contributed to the community. On Monday (29/11), the Chemistry Department conducted community service for teachers from SMKN 1 Driyorejo, Gresik, focusing on the use of social media as an educational tool.
The community service event was held offline at SMKN 1 Driyorejo, Gresik, while adhering to health protocols. Teachers from various study programs attended the event, which began with a prayer led by Mr. Abdul Karim, followed by remarks from the Vice Principal of SMKN 1 Driyorejo, Mr. Agus Hariyanto, S.Pd., M.M. Mr. Yanuardi Raharjo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D., the coordinator of the Chemistry S2 program at Universitas Airlangga, then gave a speech promoting the Chemistry undergraduate and master’s programs (S1 and S2).
The presentation was delivered by Dr. Imam Siswanto, M.Si., who discussed various media that can be used for educational purposes, including YouTube. He then focused on the use of Camtasia software for creating instructional videos. The session continued with a practical exercise using Camtasia software, guided by Mochamad Zakki Fahmi, M.Si., Ph.D. Participants, who were previously instructed by the organizers to bring their own laptops and flash drives, installed Camtasia software and completed practical assignments related to the lessons taught.
Community Service led by Dr. Alfa Akustia Widati, M.Si., received enthusiastic responses from participants who positively engaged with the presented material. At the end of the session, participants were given time to practice creating educational media using Camtasia software. Those who attended the entire event from start to finish received a certificate equivalent to an 8-hour workshop.
“The hope for this activity is that teachers can become more adaptive and prepared in facing the developments of the times and using various media for teaching and learning activities,” explained Dr. Alfa, the head of the community service activity.
