On August 27, 2024, the community service team from the Department of Chemistry, Airlangga University, organized a workshop involving 7th to 12th-grade students from the Al-Science Education Foundation (YPAS). This event aimed to equip students with skills and insights for designing strategic steps to achieve their aspirations in the field of science.
The workshop targeted 7th to 12th-grade students as they are in a crucial phase of forming their identities and exploring academic interests that will determine their future educational paths. At this stage, students begin to explore various fields of knowledge and decide on their future education. Unfortunately, many students still struggle to determine their educational direction. This workshop was designed to address this need by providing guidance in setting a vision and mission while motivating students to pursue their dreams.
The event featured experts and practitioners in science, including a team of lecturers consisting of Prof. Dr. Afaf Baktir, M.S., Prof. Dr. Purkan, M.Si., and Sofijan Hadi, S.Si., M.Si. It began with presentations on science and technology, followed by an interactive Q&A session. Each participant then wrote down their plans for achieving their goals on a “TRACKERS GOALS” sheet under the guidance of lecturers. The “TRACKERS GOALS” helps students identify their potential and systematically record their achievements. Besides gaining insights, students were also trained to develop realistic plans that could be implemented in their daily lives. A total of 500 students, accompanied by their teachers, enthusiastically participated in the event. More than 25 questions were raised during the discussion, demonstrating a high level of interest in the topics presented.
This program is a continuous initiative. As an ongoing effort, it will be followed up with student progress monitoring and further development of the “TRACKERS GOALS.” Similar workshops are also planned to be expanded to other schools, reaching more students in need of guidance for their future planning.
This workshop marks an important first step in preparing young generations for future success, particularly in the field of science, through structured planning and strong motivation.
