Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, once again conducted a community service activity in collaboration with SMKN 1 Driyorejo on Saturday (04\/12). This hybrid event took place at SMK Negeri 1 Driyorejo under the theme &#8220;Application of Phytochemistry in Teaching for Chemistry Teachers as an Alternative Implementation of Independent Learning&#8221;. The event was attended physically by chemistry teachers from SMK\/SMA\/MA schools in the Driyorejo area and surrounding regions. It was also attended virtually via Zoom by chemistry teachers from various locations such as Sidoarjo, Karawang, Dumai, and Balikpapan, who had pre-registered for the event.<\/p>\n<p>The activities began at 08:00 AM (WIB) with an opening ceremony including prayers and welcoming remarks by the Principal of SMK Negeri 1 Driyorejo, Drs. Suyono, M.M. Following that, Mochamad Zakki Fahmi, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D., Head of the Department of Chemistry at the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, delivered a speech promoting the department. Prof. Tjitjik Srie Tjahjandarie, Dra., Ph.D., discussed the implementation of independent learning in high schools, while Dr. Mulyadi Tanjung, Drs., M.S., talked about the application of phytochemistry. Participants attending in person not only received theoretical knowledge but also engaged in practical sessions directly supervised by professors and several students acting as lab instructors. They actively seized this opportunity, evidenced by the numerous questions raised. Following the practical sessions, participants were also tasked with creating and submitting lab reports. The event concluded with a post-test to gauge participants&#8217; understanding after receiving the materials and hands-on training.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Through this activity, the hope is that participants gain insights into the application of phytochemistry to support independent learning in high schools.
