Department of Chemistry FST UNAIR Successfully Organizes International Conference on Sustainable Chemistry and Industry (COSCI) 2022
The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga successfully organized the CONFERENCE ON SUSTAINABLE CHEMISTRY AND INDUSTRY (CoSCI) 2022 on September 28, 2022, in a hybrid format. This CoSCI event was held for the third time, with this year’s theme being “Welcoming on Self-Reliance of Chemical Raw Material to Promote Industrialization in Indonesia.” In line with the theme, CoSCI featured expert speakers from various countries who are knowledgeable and competent in this field. A total of 5 countries participated in the event, both as participants and speakers: Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the United States, and Japan. The conference took place hybridly at Hotel Harris Surabaya and online via Zoom Meeting.
CoSCI 2022 was opened by Mochamad Zakki Fahmi, M.Si., Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga. The international conference featured keynote speakers who are experts in their fields from various countries. They included Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Faiz Syuaib, M.Agr, discussing the Policy on Independence of Raw Materials for Chemical Drugs and Medical Devices; FX Sudirman, drh, Director of PT Biotis Pharmaceuticals, presenting on the Merah Putih Vaccine Industry; and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary (ICCBS), Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences and Coordinator General of COMSTECH, addressing topics in Material Science Industrial.
Additionally, the conference included invited speakers divided into two sessions, each consisting of four different classes. The Life Sciences session featured Prof. Yoshiaki Takaya from Meijo University, Japan, and Dr. Hery Suwito, M.Si., from Universitas Airlangga. The Medical session included Dr. Rafat Siddiqui from Virginia State University, USA, and Prof. Afaf Baktir, M.Si., from Universitas Airlangga. The Analytical and Environmental Chemistry session featured Dr. Wei Lun Ang from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia, and Satya Candra Wibawa Sakti, Ph.D., from Universitas Airlangga. Lastly, the Material and Industrial Chemistry session was conducted by Mr. Norholis Majid.
