Strengthening the Organic Metal Compound Course The Department of Chemistry Holds a Practitioner Guest Lecture with the Theme of Dye and Its Application

On Saturday (24/9), the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga, organized a Practitioner Guest Lecture titled “Dyes and Their Applications.” This online guest lecture was conducted via Zoom Meeting and featured Safrudin, S.Si., M.Si., a practitioner specializing in dyes or pigments and an alumnus of the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga. Safrudin has extensive experience as R&D and Technical Manager at PT Putramataram Coating International and currently works at Country CTS & Color Lab AkzoNobel Wood Finishes and Adhesive Indonesia. The event was facilitated by Harsasi Setyawati, S.Si., M.Si., who teaches Organic Metal Compounds at the Department of Chemistry, Universitas Airlangga.

Safrudin, M.Si., covered various topics during the guest lecture, starting from the introduction of dyes to the applications of organic and inorganic pigment chemistry. He also introduced the concept of non-volatile materials, which are physically observable materials, contrasting them with volatile materials that act only as carriers. The guest lecture included video presentations to enhance students’ understanding of dyes and their applications.

Organic pigment related exposure

This practitioner guest lecture aligns with two courses in the Department of Chemistry: Organic Metal Compounds (OMC) and Physical Chemistry. The benefit of this practitioner guest lecture is to broaden students’ perspectives so they understand the benefits and achievements of these courses. Not only were undergraduate chemistry students present at this practitioner guest lecture, but also master’s students in chemistry participated in the event. Despite being held online, it did not diminish the enthusiasm of undergraduate and master’s students from the Faculty of Science and Technology, Universitas Airlangga in participating in this beneficial activity.
