UNAIR Chemistry Master Student Achieves Best Presenter in AMBC MCLS 2021
Umrotul Furghoniyyah, a master’s student in Chemistry at UNAIR, won Best Presenter at The 4th ASEAN Microbial Biotechnology Conference in Conjunction with The 3rd Molecular and Cellular Life Science (AMBC-MCLS) held by University CoE – Research Center for BioMolecule Engineering, Universitas Airlangga on September 14-15, 2021. Umrotul presented on “Synthesis and Exploration of Activity of Dihydropyrimidinone Derivatives as Inhibitors of Human Neutrophil Elastase (HNE)”. This topic reflects her research conducted during her studies in Chemistry at UNAIR under the supervision of Dr. Hery Suwito, M.Si., and Rico Ramadhan, S.Si., M.P., Ph.D.
According to Umrotul, participating in the conference was a valuable new experience. “It was a challenge for me to summarize and present the entire research in a concise presentation,” said Umrotul. She hopes that this research can be further developed and have a positive impact on the management of COPD, a group of lung diseases that obstruct airflow and make breathing difficult.
Umrotul stated that the award she received at the conference is also recognition for her research supervisors who patiently guided her, both during the research process and in presenting data and delivering materials during the presentation. Umrotul also expressed gratitude to the chemistry professors at UNAIR who provided motivation and constructive advice.
